About this item
To this day, Verdi is considered a master of Italian opera, whose work had a strong influence on many younger composers such as, Puccini and Mascagni.
This
edition brings together five numbers from operas by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901 ) , Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924 ) and Pietro Mascagni (1863-1945 ), known as separate works an audience of millions already,
in an arrangement for school and amateur ensembles.
The
music-dramatical arrangement of the individual numbers allows both the
performance as a whole as well as separate numbers in any order. The flexible ensemble up to full symphonic orchestra offers
numerous possibilities.
In
the aria Nessun Dorma Prince Calaf sings about his conviction of his victory
("Vincerò"), although Princess Turandot has commanded their subjects, not to rest before his name was found. Strings
and one soloist (instrumental, a soloist or choir) are already sufficient for performance , where at a decision between harp or
piano, the harp part should be preferred. But even a solo-choir variant is possible: solo to T. 34 (plus Abschlusston ) followed by choir again from bar 7 to the end.
In
the aria O Mio Babbino Caro from Gianni Schicchi, whose daughter
Lauretta brings to her father about her great love for the young
Rinuccio expressed to move him to assist in the rescue of the
inheritance. Strings only are sufficient
as a minimum, but also solo & Harp,
Choir & Harp and solo, choir & harp are possible in addition to
the full symphonic orchestra. The Violoncello I is ad libitum.
The
famous Triumphal March from Aida, which had its world premiere in
Cairo, is heard during the solemn reception of Radames and his troops
through the Pharaoh. It can be be played very effectively already with brass alone.
The
Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana Pietro Mascagni Sinfonico
describes the Easter peace devout churchgoers in Sicily before the
disaster takes its course. It depicts its rural peaceful atmosphere already with strings only (Vc I ad
lib.), with the strings playing the woodwind parts in cue notes.
In
the famous Va pensiero chorus of Nabbuco the Hebrews, who are captured in
Babylonia, complain on the distant homeland, which is why the piece is
also known as prisoners or freedom choir. The piece, which also applies to many as the unofficial national anthem of
Italy, can
be performed by choir and strings alone (woodwinds in cue notes in the string parts) or by choir, strings and woodwinds.

Composer
Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924)
Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele Secondo Maria Puccini (22 December 1858 – 29 November 1924) was an Italian composer whose operas, including La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and Turandot, are among the most frequently performed in the standard repertoire. Some of his arias, such as "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi, "Che gelida manina" from La bohème, and "Nessun dorma" from Turandot, have become part of popular culture.
