Johann Georg
Leopold Mozart is best known today as the father and teacher of
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and for his violin textbook Versuch einer grundlichen Violinschule. The Schlittenfahrt or "Sleigh Ride" is a movement from his Divertimento in F for orchestra.
This
is a charming arrangement for small orchestra, with parts for two
sleigh bells positioned either side of the orchestra. This is classic
festive fare - a perfect orchestral item for any Christmas concert.

commercial recording by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Barry
Wordsworth is available on a Naxos recording entitled "The Night Before
Christmas" (Naxos 8.570331).
