Owen Goldsmith (1932-)
Composer-arranger Owen Goldsmith, a native of Borger, Texas, resides in rural Calaveras County, California, where he has been writing music fulltime since 1981. He graduated magna cum laude from San Francisco State University in 1959, having majored in piano with Vladimir Brenner. In 1965 he received his mater's degree in music history and literature, with a concentration on the music of Claudio Monteverdi. His graduate work includes study and performance in Vienna and Venice, with Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Denis Stevens, Sir David Willcocks, and Gunther Theuring.
From 1960 to 1979 Goldsmith taught choirs, orchestra and music theory at high schools in Livermore and Clayton in Northern California. Fort two years he taught chamber music and piano at Los Medanos College in Pittsburgh, and evening classes for Chabot College.
