Student of musicology, philology and archaeology in Freiburg, Leipzig and Munich. He graduated Dr. phil. in 1910. He was student with Joseph Haas and Max Reger
and later teacher at "Konservatorium" in Cologne from 1919 to 1925
He became teacher at university in Cologne from 1925 to 1947 (appointed professor) in 1927
Teacher of Gustav Kneip
His compositions are mainly for orchestra, chamber orchestra, choir and other vocal pieces.
