"Aethelinda" is Welsh for dragon. This programmatic piece invokes the energy and power of a great winged beast as it awakens from its slumber to wreak havoc on the countryside. Opening with a low string choir, the piece builds to a rousing allegro section and then a soaring fanfare.

Jeffrey S. Bishop (1970-)

Composer and arranger Jeffrey S. Bishop is the Director of Orchestras and Division Coordinator of Fine Arts at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. At Northwest he conducts three string orchestras, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, and the Early Music Ensemble. He is also the Music Director/Conductor of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City Symphonette Orchestra. A published composer and writer, and member of ASCAP, Mr. Bishop is in demand as a clinician throughout the United States. He has appeared as a clinician at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic and at the ASTA with NSOA National Convention. He has He has guest-conducted orchestras in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Oregon, and Minnesota. His articles have appeared in the books Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra (Volumes 1 and 2), and in the magazines The Instrumentalist and Orchestra News. Mr. Bishop won the 1997 National School Orchestra Association Composition Contest with his Symphony for Strings No. 1. Since then he has had nearly three-dozen pieces published by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company, Wingert-Jones Music Publications, and C-Alan Publications. He continues to receive commissions from college, high school, regional, and state orchestras across the country. In addition to his musical compositions, Jeffrey also writes a series of novels for young adults entitled The Prairie Adventures. He is represented by Running Water Literary Agency. Mr. Bishop earned his bachelor of music education degree from Northwest Missouri State University. He continued on to complete his master of music in conducting at the Wichita State University School of Music.
