About this item
The "Entry of the Masters" from Wagner's opera "The Mastersingers" is probably the best known tune in the work, if only because it also comes at the beginning of the ever-popular overture. Wagner's music is notoriously difficult for amateur orchestras (especially the strings) and this arrangement enables such orchestras and those blessed with less than a symphony-orchestra-sized string section to include some in their repertoire. A 3rd violin part is included as an alternative to the viola and an Eb part (for horns or saxophones) as an alternative to the F horn part.
Instrumentation
2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb, 2 Bassoons 2 Horns in F (alternatively 2 Horns / Saxophones in Eb), 2 Trumpets in Bb , 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola or Violin 3, Cello, Bass)

Composer
Richard Wagner (1813-1883)
Wilhelm Richard Wagner (22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, conductor, theatre director and essayist, primarily known for his operas (or "music dramas", as they were later called). Wagner's compositions, particularly those of his later period, are notable for their complex texture, rich harmonies and orchestration, and the elaborate use of leitmotifs: musical themes associated with individual characters, places, ideas or plot elements. Unlike most other opera composers, Wagner wrote both the music and libretto for every one of his stage works.
