Albert Dam (1973) ao.wellknown for the orchestral arrangements made to the music to "De Efteling", composed the ‘quarantine-composition’ especially for his youth symphony orchestra ‘De Vuurvogel’ (The Firebird) from Zwolle. Like so many others both the members of the orchestra and the director found themselves bound tot heir homes due to the corona crisis. The idea was a composition for which each member could record his own score at home using the cellphones. The director moulded all these contributions into one recording and added video images.
This short piece of music is based on the word ‘Corona’. Besides that the overall thematics has an ominous build up by rising sequences. This as a musical metaphore for the spreading virus. In the middle part the theme is still very gentle because of the woodwind instruments, but still the threatening undertone is present through the rising sequences. In the finale of this etude for orchestra the horns play the word ‘Corona’ by shouting the applicable letters (CRA) through the main melody.
“Stay@Home” has been written with a nod to the music of Rogier van Otterloo and Ruud Bos. The composition is excellent for using as a short ouverture or as a dashing encore involving all instruments.

Dirigent en initiator van Jeugdsymfonieorkest de Vuurvogel is Albert Dam. Aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium studeerde hij bachelor en master Hoorn bij Oldrich Milek en Jasper de Waal. Tevens deed hij in Den Haag orkestervaring op bij o.a. het Residentieorkest. Naast zijn hoornstudie studeerde hij in Zwolle Docent Muziek met als eerste musiceervak Piano (pop/jazz) van pianist/arrangeur Rik Elings.
Albert is verbonden aan het Meander College als docent Muziek en dirigent van de Meander Bigband, Meander Vocaal en het Meander Strijkensemble. Daarnaast was hij ruim 19 jaar docent aan het ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle. Op het Meander College is hij tevens verantwoordelijk voor de vooropleiding van het ArtEZ Conservatorium die binnen de school wordt aangeboden. Als uitvoerend hoornist maakt Albert deel uit van de begeleidingsorkesten Ensemble Conservatoire en Musica Michaelis en speelt hij regelmatig kamermuziek. Op freelancebasis schrijft hij arrangementen en composities voor uiteenlopende bezettingen en projecten.
