A solemn opening is following by a rhythmic modal theme, contrasted with a expressive middle section. The movement returns to the driving “A” theme and then into an impressive full ensemble coda.

Robert Longfield (1937-)
Robert Longfield, has earned degrees in music education and music performance from the University of Michigan and the University of Miami. His teachers have included Elizabeth Green, Jerry Bilik, Dr. William Revelli, and Dr. Alfred Reed.
Mr. Longfield has been a music educator in the public schools of Michigan and Florida for over thirty-five years. He is currently orchestra director and Chairman of the Performing Arts Department at Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Pinecrest, Florida. He is also the conductor of the Greater Miami Symphonic Band.
