About this item
The Moldau is the Czech national epic in music. The destination of the river is the city of Prague, which is not just the capital city of the country, it also represents the manifestation of the hopes and aspirations of the people of that country. While still containing all of the original sections, this edition has been shortened by about three minutes through some very seamless and judicious editing. Some of the more technical passages have also been simplified to allow younger players a chance to perform this magnificent work.

Composer
Bdrich Smetana (1824-1884)
Bedřich Smetana (2 March 1824, Litomyšl, Bohemia – 12 May 1884, Prague, Bohemia) was a Czech composer who pioneered the development of a musical style which became closely identified with his country's aspirations to independent statehood. He is thus widely regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music. Internationally he is best known for his opera The Bartered Bride, for the symphonic cycle Má vlast ("My Motherland") which portrays the history, legends and landscape of the composer's native land, and for his First String Quartet From My Life.
